Metallus and the U.S. Army held a ribbon-cutting ceremony Aug. 26 to commission new production equipment aimed at boosting munitions output. The project includes a bloom reheat furnace, a roller furnace, and an automated saw line at Metallus’ three-area plants in Perry Township. The Army funded the expansion with $99.75 million, while JobsOhio contributed $3.5 million. Metallus, headquartered in Canton, produces high-fragmentation steel for 155mm artillery shells, supporting the Army’s target of manufacturing 100,000 shells per month. The company said the expansion added about a dozen positions. The event also featured comments from JobsOhio partner TeamNEO’s Matt Dolan and U.S. Rep. Michael Rulli, plus the Army’s project manager Col. Alicia Johnson.
