Mexico’s Football Federation (FMF) has issued a fresh statement backing FIFA president Gianni Infantino after mounting calls for him to be replaced. Infantino has faced backlash following the World Cup over plans to sell stakes in FIFA’s major competitions to private investors, though those proposals were later scrapped. Despite the reversal, several nations have withdrawn their support, while FIFA says Infantino remains backed by its top leadership. FIFA’s statement stressed that it continues to support Infantino as the only official elected by FIFA’s 211 member associations, adding it expects governance outcomes from a recent meeting. The FMF said it will “neither recognize nor approve” processes that could undermine institutional integrity.
