A boat carrying West African migrants got into trouble in the Atlantic Ocean, leaving at least five people dead and dozens feared missing south of the Canary Islands. Spain’s Maritime Rescue Service said a plane spotted a “precarious” vessel about 120 km (74 miles) south of Gran Canaria on Wednesday afternoon. Three survivors were evacuated immediately by helicopter to a hospital on the island, while the remaining 41 migrants were rescued by another boat and taken to safety in the port of Arguineguín, where they were cared for by the Red Cross. All survivors were men, some underage, and came from Mali or Senegal.
