Migrant 'taxi boat' arrives at Spanish beach as men jump off & wade to shore

Nine men jumped off a fishing boat and waded ashore at Playa de San José in Níjar, Spain, as children played nearby, according to dramatic footage posted on social media. The migrants arrived on Saturday, reportedly departing from Oran, Algeria, and drifting toward Europe for about 38 hours. Local authorities have continued to carry out landings and rescues almost weekly along the Níjar coastline, which has become a hotspot for North African arrivals. While 2026 figures are lower than the previous year, landings persist. Recent incidents include the rescue of nine Algerian men 41 miles off the Mediterranean coast last week. Over August, more than 150 migrants reached or were intercepted on the Almería coast.
