A 34-year-old diver from Xiaoliuqiu was found dead early Tuesday after being reported missing while diving off the island, according to local authorities in Taiwan. The diver, surnamed Tsai, was reported missing Monday evening after entering the water near the Houshi Fringing Reefs in Liuqiu Township, Pingtung County. Pingtung County Fire Department said it received the missing-person report at 6:53 p.m. and dispatched two vehicles and five personnel to search. After about seven hours, Tsai was located without signs of life, and his brother contacted authorities at 2:17 a.m. Tuesday to report he had been found about 300 meters offshore. A diving boat transported him to Dafu Fishing Port, and at 2:36 a.m. his body was handed to family members and police for further handling. The Coast Guard said he was ultimately spotted floating by a fishing boat, while the cause remains under investigation.
