Morrisey announces 52 new Opportunity Zones across West Virginia
xCruzo Brief
Gov. Patrick Morrisey says the U.S. Department of the Treasury has certified 52 census tracts across 32 West Virginia counties as Opportunity Zones. The designations unlock federal tax incentives aimed at drawing private investment to designated communities, including efforts tied to industrial development, business expansion, housing and infrastructure. Morrisey linked the move to record investment levels, citing more than $96 billion in announced private investment and over 19,000 projected jobs over the past year. Under “Opportunity Zones 2.0,” investors can reinvest eligible capital gains through Qualified Opportunity Funds for federal tax benefits, with enhanced incentives for qualifying rural projects.
