Multiple states report suspicious packages with white powder at election offices
Election officials in Ohio, Oklahoma and Louisiana have reported suspicious packages containing white powder at election offices within the past week, shortly ahead of the U.S. midterm elections. Ohio Secretary of State Frank LaRose said U.S. Postal Service investigators blocked a letter destined for his office and that the FBI is handling the case. Oklahoma’s election board office in the state capital was evacuated Tuesday after receiving an envelope with suspicious white powder; no one was injured, according to Paul Ziriax. Louisiana Secretary of State Nancy Landry said her Baton Rouge building was evacuated, and later updates found no evidence of harmful substances after tests. The National Association of Secretaries of State and the National Association of State Election Directors voiced concern.
