Mystery surrounds ex-Marine's movements at Trump golf course, possible motives

Authorities are investigating the alleged actions of Jeanine John Taele, a Downey security guard charged by federal prosecutors with possession of an unregistered short-barreled rifle, a felony with a maximum 10-year prison sentence. According to a criminal complaint, Taele visited the Trump National Golf Course in Rancho Palos Verdes on Friday and Sunday ahead of this week’s presidential visit, wearing a radio earpiece, photographing Secret Service agents, and carrying a round of ammunition. He was arrested Sunday during the second trip. Investigators say they found a cache of firearms at his home, including an illegally modified AR-style rifle, a .45-caliber pistol, body armor, high-capacity magazines, and bulk ammunition, plus notebooks with “concerning statements.” Authorities are still seeking his broader motive and whether he intended to harm the president.
