New Mexico fishing report: Best bites and lake alerts

Anglers across New Mexico reported a mix of trout, bass and other species in recent outings, with multiple catches logged from mid-September. Donna Gomez landed three trout on the Cimarron River at the Gravel Pits on Sept. 13 using PowerBait, while Bill Pedigo caught and released four largemouth bass and some smallmouth bass at Conchas Lake on Sept. 15 with topwater poppers. Other reports include a cutbow on the Rio Grande near Questa on Sept. 18 and largemouth bass plus white bass, smallmouth bass and catfish at Ute Lake on Sept. 19 using paddle-tail swimbaits, jig heads and Gulp minnows. The New Mexico Department of Wildlife also issued Harmful Algae Bloom advisories: Charette Lake (Danger) and Clayton Lake (Warning), and additional lake-condition guidance was provided for several waters.
