New Vancouver film studio hopes to spur more productions in B.C. | Daily Hive | Business & Tech
Black Harbour, a new Vancouver-based service production company, has launched a film studio with aims to spur more productions in British Columbia. The leadership team includes Kate Kroll, JJ DuBois, Gabriel Medina, and Jacob Bailey, veterans from projects like The Fourth Kind, Farming for Love, and Armageddon Road. The group emphasizes end-to-end support from development through delivery, backed by equipment partners and post-production facilities. The venture positions itself to address a market gap by offering experienced crews at accessible costs for small- and mid-sized projects. Black Harbour argues that BC houses top production talent, crews, and locations, and seeks to be a trusted local partner from day one. The company is presenting its capabilities at the BNAFF World Media Festival, meeting producers, financiers, distributors, and industry partners. Chris Ferguson, a Vancouver filmmaker, lauded the team, saying their track record spans budgets and production styles and that he would entrust independent projects to them. The studio plans to help stabilize the local ecosystem by supporting projects from development through delivery and leveraging its network of equipment partners and facilities, aiming to attract more long-term work to the region and create sustainable employment.
