Deadspin | Report: Chiefs rework George Karlaftis' contract, create $7.7M in cap space

The Kansas City Chiefs reworked the contract of defensive end George Karlaftis, converting $9.685 million of his salary into a signing bonus to generate $7.7 million in salary-cap space. The team now sits roughly $13.3 million under the cap, which can be allocated toward signing its two 2026 first-round picks. Mansoor Delane (No. 6) carries an estimated first-year cost of about $7.6 million, while Peter Woods (No. 29) is about $3.3 million. Karlaftis, 25, signed a four-year, $93 million extension last July. In 2024-25 he posted 48 tackles, six sacks, and 23 QB hits in 16 games.
