HII, MetalCraft Marine complete sea trials of ROMULUS-25 uncrewed surface vessels
HII and MetalCraft Marine have completed the delivery and at-sea testing of two ROMULUS-25 unmanned surface vessel prototypes developed under a Defense Innovation Unit contract for the U.S. Marine Corps. The two 27-foot interceptor-class vessels were delivered in December 2025 and underwent sea trials to evaluate autonomous mission behaviors in operational maritime environments. Each ROMULUS-25 can carry up to 1,000 pounds of payload and operate at ranges of up to 1,000 nautical miles. The platforms run on HII’s Odyssey autonomy suite, which integrates onboard sensing, navigation, and decision-making to support coordinated maritime missions. Delivery occurred in McLean, Virginia, and the trials encompassed coastal and open-sea scenarios, including autonomous contact recognition and coordinated maneuvers with other platforms.
