NFU Cymru says planning delays are hitting farm productivity with stress and strain
NFU Cymru says planning delays are damaging farm productivity and creating stress and financial strain for farmers across Wales. The union raised the issue in a meeting with Welsh Government cabinet minister for local government, housing and planning, Siân Gwenllian MS. NFU Cymru president Abi Reader and rural affairs board chair Gary Yeomans presented a paper outlining planning barriers and recommendations for a more effective and supportive system. Yeomans argued an “enabling” planning framework is essential for investment in modern farm buildings and infrastructure, succession, rural youth retention, diversification and energy generation. The union also highlighted long-running problems with poultry unit planning applications, many still unresolved after intervention by the previous Welsh Government.
