NHL Star Nico Hischier Helped Save a Family With 2 Young Children During Dramatic Boating Incident
Nico Hischier is credited with helping save a family of four during a dramatic boating incident near Switzerland’s Engehalde Weir dam. The New Jersey Devils captain, 27, was on the water on July 4 when he spotted a rubber raft carrying two adults and two young children being pulled toward the dam and unable to get out. Authorities were called and Hischier rushed to the scene; a witness told Swiss outlet 20Minuten that his actions were “heroic.” Police later said they used a throw bag to pull the boat ashore, and all four occupants were rescued without injuries. The story was described to 20Minuten in an account published Thursday, July 9. Hischier also remains in the spotlight after signing a five-year, $11.7 million contract extension announced July 1.
