Obituary: William Lewis Densmore Sr.

William Lewis Densmore Sr., 95, died Sept. 10, 2026, in Portland, surrounded by family, according to his obituary. Born March 27, 1931, in Portland, he spent parts of his youth in South Boston, attending Saint Brigid Church and later returning to Portland, where he was raised in Libbytown by his grandmother, Annie B. Connolly Smith. After Portland High School, he worked 32 years on the railroad as a brakeman, pausing to serve in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean War. He later studied at Gorham Teachers College on the GI Bill, earned a master’s in guidance counseling from the University of Maine at Orono, and taught for a 30-year career across North School, Jack Junior High, and Portland High. He was an outdoorsman who enjoyed fishing at his Naples camp on Trickey Pond, and was involved in groups including the Elks Lodge. He is survived by children William Jr. and Patricia Densmore and Kathleen, among others, per the truncated notice.
