One Former 5-Star Recruit Who Is Ready to Break Out for Penn State

One former five-star recruit has positioned himself to break out for Penn State at left tackle, with tackle Malachi Goodman standing out during spring practice. Offensive line coach Ryan Clanton said Goodman’s intensity is already translating to the unit, and Goodman is listed as a prime candidate to replace Drew Shelton after finishing spring drills as the lead option. Goodman, a 6-foot-6, 330-pound redshirt freshman from Bloomfield, New Jersey, is expected to take his first college snap this season. During winter workouts he added weight and lowered body fat, prompting head coach Matt Campbell to describe him as weighing 330 pounds but looking closer to 250. Campbell said Goodman has shown an “evolution” in the weight room and on the practice field, though a starter has not been named. During training camp, he will compete with redshirt sophomore Garrett Sexton and fellow 2025 recruit Owen Aliciene.
