One of the worlds largest mega-vessels set to dock in Essex this weekend
One of the world’s largest mega-vessels set to dock in Essex this weekend highlights a major container-ship call at London Gateway on the Thames. The Munich Maersk is scheduled to arrive at London Gateway Port at about 11:15am on Saturday, July 11, after sailing from Aarhus, Denmark. The ship, described as being hundreds of thousands of gross tons, is nearly 400 metres long and is expected to remain alongside until around 6pm on Monday, July 13, before departing on its eastbound rotation toward Qingdao, China. During the stay, thousands of containers are expected to be loaded and discharged, reinforcing London Gateway’s role as a deep-sea hub. Located in Stanford-le-Hope in Thurrock, roughly 25–30 miles east of central London, the port opened in 2013 and is designed for highly automated operations with road and rail links to UK and wider markets.
