Orca attack sinks yacht off coast in north-west Spain - 4 attacks on boats on the same day in same area
xCruzo Brief
Orcas attacked multiple boats off Spain’s north-west coast, sinking one yacht and crippling others in four incidents in the same area. On Thursday, killer whales sank a pleasure craft called Idem, left another boat adrift after damaging its rudder, and caused damage to two additional vessels. On Friday, a pod rammed a Swedish-flagged yacht, Vai, off the coast of A Coruña in Galicia, smashing its rudder and leaving two occupants to issue a Mayday. The Spanish coastguard coordinated the rescue through the Finisterre Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre, towing the yacht toward Celeiro and to the town of Viveiro. Coastguards said the two people were unharmed. The Helimer 401 helicopter flew over the area to check for pollution signs.
