Oregon reports 2 Cyclospora cases tied to lettuce recall

Oregon reported two Cyclospora cases that officials said may be linked to a national recall of pre-shredded iceberg lettuce. The Oregon Health Authority said the infections involve two Oregon residents who traveled to other states included in the outbreak recall. Health officials stated the risk to the general public remains low, and Oregon has not detected an unusual increase in cyclosporiasis cases; 23 cases have been reported in the state so far this year. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said the outbreak was first tied to Taco Bell restaurants, and federal and state agencies have been tracing lettuce supplies and interviewing people about foods consumed roughly two weeks before symptoms began. Authorities said products were not reported to have been distributed in Oregon. Additional cases are expected among recent travelers and as more products are identified.
