Oulton Broad powerboat race season cancelled after racer's death
Oulton Broad’s powerboat racing season has been cancelled for 2026 after the death of driver Brett Duncan. The Lowestoft & Oulton Broad Motor Boat Club (LOBMBC) said the series will not return next year, citing uncertainty around permission to restart on-water activities. Duncan, 51, was fatally injured last July when his boat crashed into a stationary houseboat at Oulton Broad in Suffolk. The club had already suspended racing in 2025 while investigations were carried out. Investigations have since concluded, LOBMBC said, after cooperation with East Suffolk Council and the Broads Authority, alongside Suffolk Police and the Circuit Powerboat Association. The Marine Accident Investigation Branch also launched an inquiry but said it was no longer investigating because neither vessel was involved in commercial activity.
