Port has come on leaps and bounds' - Port of Workington tour given to YouTuber
A Port of Workington tour given to a YouTuber highlighted recent operational upgrades at the municipal port operated by Cumberland Council as harbour authority. The video, shared on the “The Wild Life of Johns” YouTube page by Cumbria creator John Harrison, takes viewers behind the gates of Prince of Wales dock. It features cargo handling work by port staff and the port’s RNLI base, including comments from Mark, the pilot boat coxswain, and from port manager Ben Meil. Harrison was shown the newly acquired tugboat “The Helvellyn,” purchased from Germany in 2023, equipped with a Toimil Marine crane. The tour also showcased the £2.2 million Dorothy May White lifeboat, lifted by the UK’s only Davit arm servicing Workington RNLI. The story positions the upgrades as part of efforts to re-establish Workington as a strategic hub serving England, Wales and Scotland.
