Powerboat race season cancelled after racer's death
Oulton Broad’s powerboat racing season has been cancelled for 2026 following the death of driver Brett Duncan. The Lowestoft & Oulton Broad Motor Boat Club (LOBMBC) said the racing series will not return next year, despite concluding investigations related to the crash. Duncan, 51, suffered fatal injuries in last July’s race after his boat collided with a stationary houseboat at Oulton Broad in Suffolk. Earlier, the club suspended races in 2025 while multiple bodies investigated, including Suffolk Police, the Circuit Powerboat Association, and the Marine Accident Investigation Branch, which later stated it was no longer investigating because neither vessel was engaged in commercial activity. LOBMBC said it is still waiting for East Suffolk Council and the Broads Authority to grant permission for on-water activities, leaving “no realistic prospect” of a meaningful 2026 season.
