Push to rename Nashville Airport after Dolly Parton gets backing of Tennessee governor

Nashville International Airport (BNA) and Tennessee Gov. Bill Lee announced a partnership to rename the airport for Dolly Parton, according to the governor’s office in a Friday statement. The effort follows Parton’s death on Tuesday, Aug. 25, at age 80. Calls to rename BNA began soon after her passing, though an online petition—created in January 2025—had gained momentum, surpassing 150,000 signatures as of Aug. 28. Support also includes celebrities such as Sheryl Crow, who voiced backing during an Instagram Live with Katie Couric. Lee said his team spoke with Parton’s team this week, and local officials indicated they plan additional legislation once the General Assembly meets in January.
