RCMP say four men and two women presumed drowned in B.C. fishing charter sinking
Four men and two women are presumed to have drowned after a fishing charter sank off Richmond, British Columbia, on Sunday, according to RCMP. An RCMP underwater recovery team prepared for a deep-water search in the Georgia Strait as authorities shifted efforts to recovery. Two survivors—a 33-year-old man and a 28-year-old woman—were reported in critical condition, while a 26-year-old man and a 33-year-old woman were discharged from hospital. Police suspended the search for the missing four others at 9:45 p.m. Sunday and said the vessel likely went down in very deep waters. Investigators said the cause is unknown and under investigation. Major Gregory Clarke of the Joint Rescue Coordination Centre in Victoria said those pulled from the water less than an hour after the sinking showed hypothermia, and reports indicated no one wore a life-jacket, reducing survival chances. Agencies including the air force, coast guard, Marine Search and Rescue, and BC Ferries responded.
