Real Madrid legend Cristiano Ronaldo suspended by Portugal

Cristiano Ronaldo has been hit with a provisional suspension by Portugal’s national federation after a disciplinary case was opened by the Football Association of Portugal. The development follows a turbulent week for the 41-year-old forward, including public comments from coach Jorge Jesus about Ronaldo’s lack of minutes during the Nations League. Ronaldo responded by leaving the Portuguese camp and later issued a lengthy statement apologizing and explaining his actions, indicating he expected punishment. According to a report by Fabrizio Romano, the case opened on October 9, 2026, relates to facts from October 7, with an urgent non-automatic preventive suspension while the final verdict is pending.
