Reeling them in: Anglers take to Loch Shin for the Shin Open features the Lairg Angling Club’s annual competition on Saturday, July 18, held on Scotland’s Loch Shin. Twenty-two anglers fished from 11 boats, setting sail at 10:00 a.m. after a morning of tea, coffee and bacon rolls. The event followed the customary “Tight lines” good-luck phrase as crews targeted the day’s catch. Fishing wrapped up at 6:00 p.m., when boats returned for weigh-in results. Prizes went to Billy Neil (first), Peter Weymss (second), Robert Smillie for the heaviest fish, and David Ross for the booby prize. Anglers finished with food from The Pier Café in Lairg—options included haddock and chips, burgers and chips, and seafood salad—followed by a grand raffle. Cooke Aquaculture sponsored the event, operating Sallachy Fish Farm on Loch Shin.
