Report: Talks held as Liverpool step up pursuit of World Cup ace who was keen to join in January

Liverpool have stepped up their pursuit of a World Cup-bound defender after discussions with his representatives. At the end of January, the Reds explored a potential loan for Lutsharel Geertruida, then on loan at Sunderland from RB Leipzig, and he was reportedly keen to join Anfield. The move proved too complex to complete in time, and Geertruida returned to RB Leipzig, who are understood to be open to offers around £26 million. Geertruida has since been called into the Netherlands World Cup squad as a replacement for the injured Jurrien Timber, increasing his profile ahead of possible summer moves. Representatives for Geertruida held talks with Liverpool late on Tuesday.
