Rescuers are still searching for 3 people after a boat sank in San Francisco Bay, leaving 1 dead
Rescuers are still searching for 3 people after a boat sank in San Francisco Bay, leaving 1 dead as authorities continued efforts Wednesday near Alcatraz Island. One person was pulled from the water but later died, while 16 people were saved after the vessel encountered trouble Tuesday afternoon during what officials said was a memorial service. A dog on board also died. San Francisco Fire Chief Dean Crispen said the motor was running and leaking fuel when rescuers arrived, and officials described the craft as a 50-foot (15-meter) multilevel cabin cruiser. The search has involved divers, helicopters, and other vessels, after earlier operations covered waters on the western side of the Golden Gate Bridge. The emergency call came just after 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, about 600 yards from Alcatraz, and the boat was believed to have launched near St. Francis Yacht Club.
