Restoration of Bridgwater dock to 'former glory' given go ahead
xCruzo Brief
Restoration work on Bridgwater’s Northgate Docks has received the go-ahead to transform the town’s historic dock area into a destination for visitors. The proposals, launched in 2023, aim to bring back residential moorings and to improve walking and cycling routes. Somerset Council backed the plans unanimously at a meeting on Tuesday. Councillor Gill Slocombe described the works as “long overdue,” saying she wants the docks restored to their “former glory.” Although approval has been granted, the start date for the work has not yet been set. According to the Local Democracy Reporting Service, the docks have not been used since December 2021, after the last lease held by the Canal and River Trust expired.
