Retired Clark County firefighter just spent 11 months sailing the world

Jimmy Johnson, a retired Clark County fire captain, has returned to Las Vegas after spending 11 months sailing the world in the 14th Clipper Round the World Yacht Race. He began the journey in August 2025, departing from Portsmouth, England, on 70-foot sailing yachts with 10 teams and crews of 18 to 20 people. Johnson sailed for Team Warrant from England and described a brutal start: three back-to-back storms on the first leg from England to Puerto Sherry, Spain, including five days of seasickness and two thumb dislocations he had to fix himself. After surviving rough conditions that sent a crew member overboard near South America, he later helped the team win the Airlie Beach to Subic Bay leg and finish with a yellow first-place flag.
