Santa Barbara Airport Seeks Public Feedback on Climate Adaptation Plan
xCruzo Brief
Santa Barbara Airport and the City of Santa Barbara are seeking public feedback on a new Airport Climate Adaptation Plan (CAP), aimed at protecting the airport and nearby coastal resources from climate hazards such as sea level rise and severe flooding. The airport sits in a low-lying area near the Goleta Slough and is highly vulnerable: the risk of a flood-related airport closure is projected to grow from 20% annually to 60% by 2076 without action. Last winter alone, SBA saw three separate closures due to severe flooding. SBA is in phase two of a three-stage process. Feedback is due by Nov. 13, 2026.
