Sausalito City Manager Elaine Forbes arrested after yacht harbor break-in

Sausalito’s city manager Elaine Forbes was arrested and charged with burglary after authorities said she allegedly broke into a yacht at a harbor, an incident that also involved other boats. Forbes, who had been on leave since July 16 from her prior role as executive director of the Port of San Francisco, was taken into custody before 7 a.m. Saturday, according to the Marin County Sheriff’s Office. The yacht owner, Bill Aubrey, told KTVU that he found Forbes locked in the wheelhouse when an air horn sounded. City records show she was appointed city manager less than three weeks before the arrest. Witnesses also told KTVU that two other boats were broken into that night, with one owner reporting that alcohol and personal items were disturbed. Forbes’ bail is set at $50,000, and authorities said the investigation is ongoing, while the city said it will discuss next steps at an upcoming meeting.
