Search continues after boat capsizes off Baja California coast. Survivors attacked by sharks
Search and rescue efforts continued for 11 people believed missing after a boat departed Mexico and capsized off Baja California, according to the U.S. Coast Guard. Sixteen Mexican nationals had already been rescued on Friday, and authorities said multiple survivors were treated for injuries consistent with suspected shark bites. The Coast Guard said it provided life-saving first aid while transferring survivors toward San Diego and that additional assets were being used, including U.S. Coast Guard and Navy aircraft and boats with assistance from the Mexican Navy. A helicopter was set to be deployed later Saturday. The Coast Guard said the incident occurred about 140 miles (225 km) west of Ensenada and in an area frequented by smugglers, not in U.S. waters. A mayday call came around 1 a.m. and a rescue helicopter arrived about two hours later.
