SeaWorld San Diego releases 13 rehabilitated marine mammals back into ocean

SeaWorld San Diego returned 13 rehabilitated marine mammals to the ocean off the San Diego coast, posting footage of the releases. The group included nine California sea lions, a threatened Guadalupe fur seal, two northern fulmars, and a common murre. The animals had been rehabilitated for issues ranging from fishing-line entanglements to severe malnutrition, with SeaWorld saying two had lines wrapped around their necks and one California sea lion had line that had gone through its mouth. The Guadalupe fur seal was rescued at the end of January by the Pacific Marine Mammal Center before going to SeaWorld. SeaWorld is also involved in a rescue to save 30 beluga whales from Marineland of Canada, and says it expects to take three—Xavier, Cyprus and Jasper.
