Seaworthy Author Talk -Will Sofrin

Chaucer’s Books in Indianapolis, Indiana is scheduled to host author Will Sofrin for a talk and signing on Sunday, October 18, 2026 at 3 p.m., featuring his book USCG Cutter Eagle: The Legacy of the Coast Guard’s Flagship. The event highlights how the Coast Guard converted a captured World War II ship into a national symbol, described as a training vessel and platform for diplomacy. Known today as USCG Cutter Eagle, the ship was originally built in Germany as Horst Wessel and sailed under the Nazi flag before being taken as a war prize. Sofrin’s book traces nearly eight decades of U.S. service, including training roles for U.S. Coast Guard Academy cadets in navigation and ship handling, and it emphasizes leadership and international goodwill missions tied to the ship’s voyages.
