Sensational transfer twist as Arsenal 'push hard' for SHOCK Tottenham star to fill defensive void
Arsenal are reportedly “pushing hard” to sign Tottenham captain Cristian Romero to address a defensive crisis, according to the Daily Mail. The North London club has contacted Romero’s representatives to gauge conditions for a possible deal, moving amid concern over William Saliba’s fitness. Saliba has been ruled out at the start of the Premier League campaign due to a back injury suffered during the 2026 World Cup. Atletico Madrid are described as the frontrunners, with Diego Simeone a long-term admirer and plans to raise funds through potential sales of Matteo Ruggeri to Aston Villa and Nahuel Molina to Roma for combined fees intended to support a £30m opening offer. Inter have agreed a £34m fee with Spurs but lack agreement on personal terms, while Tottenham can let Romero go for the right price.
