Six arrested at protest as migrants 'at sea for 36 hours' arrive in Dover

A dinghy carrying 51 migrants arrived in Dover after spending about 36 hours at sea, after leaving the Normandy coast. The French coastguard shadowed the boat after it departed Monday, and RNLI vessels met it on Tuesday, transferring the people to a Border Force vessel. Authorities had expected the migrants to go to Gosport, Hampshire, but the boat headed east along the coast. Hundreds of protesters gathered at Dover marina, where six men were arrested by Hampshire Police after some officers were allegedly assaulted and there was hostility toward police. Investigators are also looking into a video showing damage to a boat in the English Channel.
