Skipper who champions Cornish sardines gets national award
xCruzo Brief
Tom Lambourn, a 30-year-old skipper from Newlyn, Cornwall, has been named Fishing Hero of the Year at the Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) UK awards. He received the MSC UK honour at a gala dinner at London’s Fishmongers’ Hall earlier this week. Judges cited his commitment to promoting the small-scale Cornish sardine fishery and his work to keep stocks healthy and the coastline thriving. Lambourn captains his own boat, the Lyonesse, during the July-to-April sardine season. He also credited Paradise Park for switching its penguin feed from sprats to Cornish sardines, aligning with MSC-certified sourcing.
