Some Lake Chelan businesses 'haven't made a dime since the fires'

Businesses around Lake Chelan say they’re being hit hard by ongoing wildfires, with hotel rooms, parking lots and facilities left nearly empty. In Manson, Chelan County, Harmony Meadows Tennis Resort co-owner Jacquelyn Jaech reported she “hasn’t made a dime since the fires,” describing deserted grounds and a smoky haze from the Little Giant fire, a 148,000-acre wildfire that was 21% contained and had destroyed at least 35 structures as of Tuesday. A second Stormy Mountain fire burned nearby. The fires have discouraged tourists and led to evacuation orders west of the lake, with Chelan Mayor Erin McCardle warning that smoke can cancel trips and reduce visitors. Peak-season revenue shortfalls threaten companies’ ability to survive winter, according to local owners.
