xCruzo Brief

Southern Maryland’s rockfish season has kicked off with solid results for anglers willing to fish early and late. Piney Point is producing stripers in the 22- to 26-inch range, with a 24-inch maximum keeper size. On St. George Island, George Creek’s piers and docks are holding “slot” fish, and topwater lures, swimming plugs, and jigs are drawing strikes. Reports also point to rockfish in Patuxent River shallows and along drop-off edges in both the Patuxent and Potomac. Mackerel were scarce early, but bluefish have stayed consistent and bull reds can appear any time. Bottom fishing is strong with spot and hardhead, and crabbing is excellent. The week should turn warm before cooler weekend weather arrives.
