Sports Documentaries To Stream For Women's Equality Day
Ahead of Women’s Equality Day, which is observed annually on August 26 to mark the 1920 ratification of the 19th Amendment, PBS Documentaries on Prime Video is highlighting three sports-focused films about barriers and breakthroughs in women’s athletics. The lineup includes Groundbreakers, hosted by Billie Jean King, covering 50 years of female excellence through eight athletes such as Naomi Osaka, Jackie Joyner-Kersee, Chloe Kim, Nancy Lieberman, Suni Lee, Julie Foudy and Diana Flores. Home Court follows Ashley Chea, a Cambodian American basketball prospect, as she navigates competitive pressure alongside challenges tied to her immigrant family, addressing themes of race, class and expectations. The series frames today’s gains as the result of decades of advocacy.
