Students helping to study shark population off the Kent coast

A new project is helping scientists track shark movements off the Kent coast by collecting data from live captures before releasing the animals back into the water. Kent Wildlife Trust is running “Sharks of Kent,” working with its marine partners Adonis Blue. The project focuses on starry smooth-hound sharks, gathering information during controlled capture and release events. It also involves local marine biology graduates, who support the research effort, and training for local fishing experts and boat skippers so they can tag sharks and contribute to the study. The initiative aims to better understand shark behavior through field tagging and observation.
