Supreme Court denies immigration judges power to shelve deportation cases
xCruzo Brief
The U.S. Supreme Court on Tuesday denied an emergency request to restore immigration judges’ authority to temporarily postpone deportation cases, leaving in place a deal between Donald Trump’s administration and Republican-led Texas that blocks the practice known as “administrative closure.” The justices issued a one-sentence order without explanation and none publicly dissented. The agreement was filed June 22, the same day Texas sued over the immigration-court procedure, and was quickly approved by U.S. District Judge Reed O’Connor. Cities including Baltimore, along with Centro Legal de la Raza, argued the government improperly coordinated with Texas to invalidate the rule while the broader litigation continues.
