Taiwan’s Coast Guard said it used a water cannon to drive a Chinese fishing boat out of restricted waters near Dongsha Island after the crew refused orders to leave. The patrol vessel Yunlin detected two boats—identified as Yue Hui Dong Yu 75066 and Jin Sha—about 8 nautical miles (15 km) inside the restricted area on Thursday. Yunlin ordered both vessels to depart; Yue Hui Dong Yu 75066 complied, but Jin Sha did not. After three radio warnings failed, the Coast Guard fired water at the bridge from about 200 meters away. The boat then began to move away; all crew were safe.
