Tall ships in Boston Harbor causing delays at Logan Airport
Tall ships in Boston Harbor causing delays at Logan Airport reports that Sail Boston 2026’s tall ships are affecting airline operations at Boston Logan Airport. As of 12 p.m. Saturday, FlightAware said about 227 flights were delayed and eight were canceled. The disruption stems from the Parade of Sail, which began at 9 a.m. Saturday and kicked off the five-day Sail Boston 2026 event running July 11 to July 16, with more than 60 ships from around 20 countries visiting Boston, including opportunities to board some historic vessels. The parade, led by the U.S.S. Constitution, passed Castle Island in South Boston around 10 a.m. and is expected to end around 3 p.m. Massport said some ships are passing under Logan’s runway approach paths; their masts could be too tall and interfere with landings, so air traffic control uses a different landing configuration with fewer planes per hour. Massport also cited a fuel-supply system issue outside the airport, asking incoming flights to bring extra fuel temporarily.
