TEMO launches clever new electric boat motor in the US
French electric marine propulsion maker TEMO is bringing its latest system to North America with the OUTPOD, debuting at the United States Sailboat Show in Annapolis, Maryland, later this week (Oct. 15–18). The electric setup aims to bridge the gap between traditional outboards and permanently installed pod drives. Unlike pod drives that typically require cutting into the hull, the OUTPOD uses an external, bolt-on transom mount with an underwater pod—no drilling below the waterline. It can slide off for storage or maintenance, and a height-adjustable mast lets sailors hoist the entire motor out of the water while sailing to reduce drag. TEMO will sell two versions: OUTPOD 1000 (1,300W, 66 lb static thrust) and OUTPOD 3000 (3,100W, 148 lb). Both use removable 2.3 kWh batteries, start at $2,600, and are shown with TEMO’s 48V SEASIDE ecosystem.
