The 11 cheapest UK towns to buy a home by region - properties for just £73,600
xCruzo Brief
Zoopla’s latest affordability analysis points to a handful of UK towns where buying a home can cost dramatically less than the national average. Across 929 towns, a typical property costs £299,100—about 4.3 times annual household earnings—yet some markets were far cheaper. The most affordable is Shildon in County Durham, where homes average £73,600, or 1.15 times two full-time annual wages. In the North East, eight locations came in under twice that threshold. Workington topped the North West list at £114,900 on average (1.65 times two wages). In Scotland, Zoopla found Fraserburgh as the cheapest option at £1.59 times two wages. The study notes affordability still depends on jobs, deposits and mortgage costs.
