The 2026-2027 continental harvest begins in Guárico with support for the Conppa
Venezuela’s 2026-2027 inland fishing season began Saturday, August 1, in Guárico with the delivery of 87 outboard motors to the Councils of Fishermen and Aquaculture Producers (Conppa). Authorities also provided more than 2,000 supplies for processing rooms, 25 marketing kits, and led a tour of the Generoso Campilongo dam in Calabozo. The Minister of Fisheries and Aquaculture, Juan Carlos Loyo, and Governor Donald Donaire inaugurated the start in 16 states, including Guárico, Apure, Barinas, Portuguesa, and Zulia, among others. The government said fishermen will target species such as catfish, coporo, caribe, and curbinata, with strict controls for harvesting curito to protect its population. Loyo urged artisanal fishers to register in the Sirena system and said oversight will support fair pay and reduce exploitation by marketing networks.
