The dizzying speed of Trump's deportation machine: Fresno man lands in Mexico 16 days after arrest
xCruzo Brief
Luis Arreguin, a 54-year-old Fresno resident, says he was removed from the U.S. just 16 days after his Oct. 1 arrest by federal immigration agents tied to the Trump administration’s latest enforcement surge in California’s San Joaquin Valley. Arreguin was among about 130 people advocates say were detained in the early phase of “Operation Safe California.” U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement reported removing more than 356,000 people in the first nine and a half months of fiscal year 2026, exceeding roughly 320,000 for all of fiscal year 2025. Arreguin spent 15 days in custody before being flown to Tapachula, then traveled north by bus to Mexicali, where he faces restarting his life far from his family.
