The military is searching for a U.S. Marine missing off the coast of California as officials continue efforts to locate him after he went missing during training. Multiple agencies resumed the search Sunday, with crews starting early Thursday morning shortly after midnight, according to a Navy news release. The Marine was reported missing from the USS Anchorage during integrated training between the Makin Island Amphibious Ready Group and the 13th Marine Expeditionary Unit. The Navy transitioned from search-and-rescue to search-and-recovery Friday evening. The search area covered about 2,400 square miles (6,200 square kilometers) using three surface ships and 12 aircraft from the Navy, Marine Corps, Coast Guard and Air Force. His name was withheld pending notification of family. The incident follows another missing-service member search in Morocco.
